All I Want for Christmas . . . is to plan a party!

Recently, the students of Room 4 have been spending time adding and subtracting decimals. A great way to play around with decimals is practice using them in one of the most common place ways we see them - with money!

Students were "given" $1000 to plan a party with food and presents for their friends and family.  They used flyers to search out the items they wanted.  Students were sure to follow the rules of place value in order to add and subtract accurately.

Enjoy the pictures :)

Today, I was Chef for a Day during TUSC!  The students really enjoyed the recipe, so I thought I'd share it with you!

Writing Letters to Santa with the Kinders

Today, we worked with the Kindergartens to write letters to Santa! First, we got into groups with the Kinders.  Next, we introduced ourselves and asked them how they were doing.  We worked with them to write their ideas down and we were sure to include a couple of things they especially wanted to get for Christmas.  They also needed to include 3 things that they did throughout the year to show that they share, care and play fair. Later, we asked if they love Christmas. Many of them said they did, and many of us said that we love Christmas as well. After that, we were able to read or draw with them. We had so much fun and look forward to doing something with them again soon!

A Well-Deserved Reward

Today we are enjoying an extra special treat. To celebrate our learning about how animals and humans survive, we are watching Wall-E. The themes of this movie will give students a chance to reflect on our topics of study this term. Great job, Room 4!

Today in Room 4

Our class has been spending a lot of time researching how animals and humans survive and thrive.  Our final project is a diorama, which is a visual representation of everything we have learned during our study.  Here are a few sneak peaks!

We also had a SLC (Social Learning Community, better known as an assembly) which focused on the traditions we share with our friends and family.  One of our school's traditions is our annual Winnipeg Harvest Food Drive.  This year our goal with be to collect 500 pounds of food.  We can do it! Here are some pictures from the assembly.
