A Year In Review

Dear Room 4 Students and Parents,
What a great 10 months it has been! I have had the most amazing students of my career this year.  We have learned and shared and grown together as a real family.
Some of my favourite memories include carving jack-o-lanterns for halloween, making tipis at the Forks, and snapping photos at the zoo.
When I look back to September, I can remember being excited for school to start.  I had both old and new faces working in my class together this year, so I was really looking forward to making the learning fresh and fun.
All in all it has been an amazing year, and I am so thankful to have had such an amazing group of kids to work with.  I wish you all nothing but the best and I hope you won't forget to visit.  It has really been an absolute pleasure teaching each and every one of you!

Below is a preview of a slideshow I have created that includes many memories from this school year.

I hope you enjoy!

Diorama-Rama!

We've been learning about Weather and the Land, specifically looking at how they are connected. The Grade 4's focussed on Rocks, Minerals and Erosion and the Grade 5's focussed on Weather. The students wanted to make dioramas to help share their learning. Here are their masterpieces!

Little Red Wagon

Today, we watched an amazing movie called the "Little Red Wagon".  I have a feeling that the students may be talking about this movie when they get home, as it dealt with a serious issue, namely homelessness.  It was incredibly inspiring.  If you'd like to learn more about the true story that inspired the movie, please check out the link below!  Have a great long weekend!

We have been very lucky to have an amazing year, with lots of learning and sharing. Here is the class working on their year end books that will showcase just a few if the fantastic things we've done this year. Stay tuned for each stage, as I will document the making of these books on the blog.

Aztec Sunshines

Yesterday, we began creating our sunshines.  We used pencil, paper and pastels.  The sunshines have contrasting colours, lines and curves.  We also outlined them with black to make the colours really stand out.  Here's some comments from the students:

We wanted to make suns because we still have snow outside! We are colouring
in the suns to make them bright and beautiful! - Elora

They are bursting with bright colours! - Christine

We are making contrasting colour suns! - Anna

Mrs. Steinhoff told me I am really improving in my art and following the directions closely.  It's making my art better! - Kyle

I will be sure to post the finished products!

More info about Fix a Leak - Slow the Flow

Hey Everyone,

I just saw that we are on FortWhyte's website.  Here is the link, which has a picture of some of our results we found while going around the school.  Pretty awesome, if you ask me!
